The Future Has Arrived
"The future is here. It’s just not widely distributed yet.” The quote, attributed to William Gibson, was brought to mind as I reviewed the many technological accomplishments of 2008. The quote is apropos of my job as a business forecaster and professional futurist because, as I often like to remind my audiences, I don’t predict the future—I merely outline plausible possibilities based on existing trends.
With this caveat in mind, if you would like to review ten notable technological achievements of the past year and learn what they might mean for your near-term future, click here.
Future Flash: Supercomputers
The future is accelerating. One reason is because our tools are getting better. Nowhere is this more true than in the field of supercomputers. To help audiences better understand just how powerful these machines are becoming, I have put together this short, two-minute video. I highly recommend it because I'm confident it'll put the issue in some perspective and help you more better understand how these behemoths are doing everything from designing new materials and pharmaceuticals at an ever accelerating rate to helping scores of businesses save millions of dollars.
When in a Recession: Jump the Curve
Like everyone else, I understand we are in the midst of a serious recession but far from being pessimistic about the future, I remain optimistic -- extremely optimistic. Why? In a word: Innovation. To better understand why I'm so confident that we'll pull out of this recession let me share with you a sample of how some of America's leading company's are jumping the curve and innovating their way into the future. Just click on the associated link for each company: Google, Amazon, Microsoft
, Lockheed Martin, FloDesign Wind Turbine and you'll see that there is no shortage of new ideas, new products, new ways of doing business or new markets.
